Rediscovering lines

To create this remarkable collection, Jane Gemayel immersed herself in the fascinating world of Auguste Rodin, immersing herself in a collection of some one hundred sketches and watercolors by the legendary sculptor. These sketches reveal the evolution of his ideas and creative process. Inspired by Rodin's mastery of the human body and attention to detail, Jane Gemayel set about reinterpreting these sketches in her own way.

Jane Gemayel is a Canadian artist, who lives and works in Monaco.

Born in Ontario, Canada, Jane spent a quiet childhood from which she particularly remembers long horse rides. She attended school in her home town but was most interested in the small library there; she discovered her real passion at a very young age: books, dictionaries and a boundless love of words. She also read poetic literature and the great classics. She discovered one day in an obscure bookstore a small gold book titled The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. Inside were 26 prose poems delivered as sermons by a fictional wise man in a faraway time and place, the book also includes drawings by Gibran…

  • EFG BANK

It is with great pleasure that EFG Bank (Monaco) is hosting Jane Gemayel’s latest exposition in Monaco following the very successful showing at the Galerie Ribolzi in 2015.

I hope that those of you who like me have known this artist for many years will appreciate her works which are an ode to the female body, often voluptuous, always as graceful as her ballerinas on display in one of our ground floor meeting rooms, not to mention the collec- tion of original portraits to be found in our third floor library where each face is named after a flower leaving you to contemplate the symbolism.

I am sure that you will appreciate the originality and quality of this wonderful collection of works and that you will be touched by the artist’s talent, so original and elegant, where land and the heavens are suspended in a cosmic ballet.

  • Adriano Ribolzi Gallery

Meeting Jane Gemayel and her painting has been a great revelation.

The revelation of her unique of its type art but also her person, her kindness, her immediate contact, her modesty concerning her works, her shyness and her human warmth. As I looked at her albums, I was transported into a world without hitches, without angles, without the brutality we encounter every day!

Her World - made up of women with sensual curves, flowers, children and religion, while emanating great strength. The feeling of inner peace which emanates from her paintings is reflected in her gaze which is both strong and sweet, and very deep. We cannot remain indifferent to her works, they are captivating and give us a strong desire to see more, their evolution - what other wonders will she offer us!

Thank you, Jane, for everything you give us with your friendship and your painting.

  • Alain AMIEL

In this universe populated by allegories or ancient bacchanals, Jane's figures take us back to a time when creation was in unison with the pleasure of living, dance and sensuality. His women seem reunited before the infinity of the world in peace and the expectation of happiness.

His work is a diary where his emotions are expressed not in writing but in the heart of his drawings (“Painting like others write their autobiography” Picasso).
